Renowned rapper G Herbo has made a significant legal decision, agreeing to plead guilty in a federal court in Massachusetts on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and making a false statement to a federal official. Both the Chicago Tribune and The Republican have reported on the development, shedding light on the artist’s impending legal fate. In exchange for his plea, two charges of aggravated identity theft against G Herbo will be dropped. If convicted, the rapper faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

G Herbo’s attorney, James W. Lawson, has been approached by Pitchfork for comment on the plea agreement.

The genesis of this legal entanglement dates back to 2020 when G Herbo and five other men were indicted by a federal grand jury for their alleged involvement in a fraudulent scheme. The indictment accused them of using stolen payment and credit card information to finance extravagant expenses, such as private jet charters, luxury car rentals, and high-end designer puppy purchases.

In response to the public revelation of the indictment, G Herbo’s management asserted the rapper’s innocence and expressed confidence in proving it during court proceedings. Initially pleading not guilty to the charges, G Herbo even addressed the accusations in his song “Statement.” However, the situation took a turn when he faced additional charges of making false statements to federal officials.

Throughout this challenging period, G Herbo managed to continue his music career, releasing albums like “25” and “Survivor’s Remorse.” Nevertheless, legal troubles persisted, culminating in a recent arrest in Chicago for unlawful weapon use after a routine police stop.
